UBCIC SUPPORT NATIVE YOUTH PROTEST OF BC TREATY PROCESS

Vancouver, BC - April 18, 1998 The Union of BC Indian Chiefs supports the Native Youth Movements' stand against the extinguishment policies of the BC Treaty Commission. The Youth are not alone in their opposition to the extinguishment policies; Indian people - young and old - from all Indigenous Nations are opposed to the B.C.T.C. They continue to fight for thier survival.

Citizens of Indian Nations will never accept a process designed to have Indian Nations sign over our Aboriginal Title to our Lands. Without our land, our Peoples will die. The current "land claims" policies and treaty process of the Canadian government are genocide pure and simple. Our Peoples will never accept extinguishment. No treaty process based on the theft of our land will be deemed morally or legally acceptable. Especially without our full and informed consent.

The Native Youth Movement are taking a stand in fighting for our collective future and the UBCIC supports them fully in their courageous actions.
