Apr 19/98: NYM occupation of BC Treaty office, Day 3

Native Youth Movement
Press Release
Sunday, April 19, 1998

Occupied Coast Salish Territory - Members of the Native Youth Movement send greetings to all our people and those that support us in the stand we have taken. We are now in the third day of our occupation inside the offices of the BC Treaty Commission, and our spirits remain strong. We thank all those that have brought us food and who have shown their support.

Inside these offices there are about 30 people, from some 12 different Indian Nations. We have our drums and our medicines here with us, we hold prayer circles and we sing our songs. We feel strong in the stand that we have taken. Everyday that we are in here we are sharing & learning more about this "treaty" process, and it reinforces why we have taken this action. History has shown us that Canada has broken every treaty it has made with the peoples of this land. We say: This Land Is Not For Sale!

TOMORROW, MONDAY APRIL 20, the police may attempt to remove us from the building. We are calling on all supporters to gather outside the BCTC offices, 1155 West Pender, at 10:00 am. We also advise all media that at that time the Native Youth Movement will hold a Press Conference.

We repeat that our only demand of the BC Treaty Con-mission is to STOP THE PROCESS!!!!

The Struggle Continues...
