North Vancouver -- Federal legislation to formally legalize the BC native treaty process will be passed in the next few weeks, says Indian Affairs Minister Ron Irwin. "I was told that the BC Treaty Process could be heard in the House for third reading on Thursday," Irwin said after a Friday meeting of the BC First Nations Summit. "It looks like it will probably be next week some time and it may be over by next week.

Summit Chief Joe Mathias told the meeting the treaty process involving more than 40 First Nations groups must become law before the next provincial election, in case Gordon Campbell leads the Liberals to power.
