On Friday, August 8th, there will be a benefit concert and information night for North American Political Prisoners and Prisoners of War at Gallery ISART, 263 St. Antoine West, Metro Place D'Armes [Montréal]. Doors open at 8pm, music starts at 9pm.
Hip-hop/ rap groups include M.O.B., CRITICAL THOUGHT, SCÉLÉRA, and the revolutionary rants of New Jersey's CRITICAL MASS, with Quebecois rebel rocker LANDRIAULT.
Proceeds will be sent to MUMIA ABU-JAMAL, the celebrated US Political Prisoner and writer on Pennsylvania's death-row, and the first nations TS'PETEN DEFENDERS William Jones Ignace "Wolverine" and OJ Pitawanakwat, who have been imprisoned since the end of the RCMP siege of their traditional territory in the summer of 1995. Their trial has been the longest criminal trial in Canadian history, and Wolverine faces 16-23 years for defending himself against a tank (APC) which attempted to run him over. Proceeds will also go towards the WARCHEST PROGRAM of the Anarchist Black Cross Federation (ABCF), which sends money regularly to those political prisoners and prisoners of war with the least material support.
This event is sponsored by the following organisations: Solidarité-Comité d'information sur les prisonnieres politiques, Citoyennes opposées à la brutalité policière, Montreal ABC, First Nations Solidarity Working Group (Concordia QPIRG), Demanarchie, Zapatista Direct Solidarity Committee, Anti-Racist Action, and CKUT radio 90.3 fm.
