On Thursday, June 13th, 1996 Bill S-9, 'An Act Providing for Self-Government by the First Nations of Canada' was presented for its first hearing in the Senate by Native Senator, Walter Twinn.
The second hearing of this Bill will be on Tuesday, June 18th, 1996.
Mohawk Traditionalists from Kahnawake will be at Parliament Hill to protest this bill and Self-Government as prescribed by the Canadian Government.
Ron Irwin stated on January 20th, 1994, during a parliamentary discussion period that 'Self-Government is based upon developing what exists from the Two Row Wampum Treaty'.
The Two Row Wampum Treaty belongs to the Traditional Longhouse Chiefs of the Five Nations Confederacy, not the Indian Actors of the Elected Band Council System.
Self-Government as prescribed, in its present form, jeopardizes the treaty rights of all Native People (hunting, fishing, border crossing, tax exemptions, etc...) and municipalizes all Native Reserves and Territories.
The Enfranchisement of the Native People that Chretien's White Paper of '69 prescribed is now quietly being inflicted upon the Native People of this land under his regime.
Join with the Traditional Mohawk People at Parliament Hill on Tuesday June 18, 1996 to stop the genocidal policy of Self-Government.
Contact (514) 638-4357 for more information.
Also call Walter Twinn at (613)943-1457, to let him know that you don't want this Self-Government Bill passed and that it is a violation of the Two Row Wampum Treaty.
